What to Do If You Need an Emergency Filling

After years of wear and tear, fillings can fail and fall out, leaving the area vulnerable. If you can find the filling, put it in a safe place and bring it with you to our office. If the area is painful, you can temporarily fill it with dental wax or cement from the pharmacy. Do not use any other adhesives in your mouth that are not intended for dental needs. You can temporarily replace a filling with a denture adhesive or cement after you have cleaned any debris from the area.

Do I Actually Need Emergency Care?

Seeing a professional dentist promptly can make a huge difference in saving your natural tooth and keeping your smile healthy. When you lose a filling, there is a possibility that your tooth has been fractured. The tooth may become especially sensitive if a nerve is exposed. New composite fillings or a crown will probably be needed.

A good rule of thumb is if it’s painful, it is a dental emergency. Dr. Escarsega and our trained staff in San Antonio can help diagnose your condition and provide a permanent or temporary solution. If you lose a filling or have a very painful tooth, call our office to schedule an examination and a proper replacement.
